I am very pleased to say that one of my works was donated to a museum here in my home state, The Sheldon Art Museum. The museum people put together a fantastic show ‘Fifty Gifts for Fifty Years’ complete with a catalogue. At the reception, I was able to talk to some people I hadn’t seen in a long time. It was great fun. I went upstairs to the gallery to see the show. I was so excited to see my piece was hung next to a work by the performance artist, Orlan. This work I had never seen before. It is from her series American-Indian Self-hybridizations, 2005-2008. I’m most familiar with her shocking surgery performances, so this was an interesting piece to see. The image in this post is not the one what was in the exhibition.

My friend Brett Reif is having a show of his latest series Bathworks. I totally love it! All the work is constructed out of common materials used in a bathroom. The forms are still fun and quirky in their abstractions. I really love the different textures. If you happen to be in New Orleans this month, you need to stop by the Du Mois Art Gallery. You won’t be disappointed!

I love the work of Amie Dicke. I’ve ventured a little bit into working with cut paper. That is some hard work! I think Amie’s work utilizes this technique in a pretty clever and engaging way.

I have neglected my art posting! Please forgive me for that. I’m back and I cannot believe that it is already Labor Day. So, whose work is on my mind? The work of Ricky Swallow. I love objects. I love wood. How could I not love his work?! Swallow demonstrates a patient skill that I really admire. How he makes wood look like the fabric of a folded sneaker caught in some branches or the wrinkles in a sleeping bag demonstrates some outstanding craftsmanship.
