A myth about artists is that they can’t tell time and are unorganized because they’re too busy being creative. If you want to be a successful artist, you have to know how to manage your time and you MUST meet deadlines. That is a huge part of the job. Professional artists are some of the most organized people I know.

I just got back home from the closing of my show in Iowa City. It does me a lot of good to get out of town, even if it’s just for one night. I met up with my friend Anita. She’s an artist and professor there. The last time I saw her was at a conference in England. I really like her take on thins and she just has an easy personality to be around.

Behold Some Mighty Mosaics

I know little to pretty much nothing about the art of the mosaic. I’ve always viewed it as a decorative element ranging from amazing wall / ceiling murals of churches to the more kitschier design element used to decorate platters, vases and candle holders that you would find in such stores as Pier 1 or Z. Galleria. My dear friend, Michael has worked this traditional media into something way fresh and exciting.

I Want You So Bad That I Must Kill Myself

I have only been to the Louvre once in my life. Everyone should visit this museum at least once in your life. When my friend Dina and I landed in Paris, we knew that multiple visits to the museum were in order. The place is HUGE! The building alone is pretty spectacular with its gorgeous architectural details like its parquet wood flooring. I really loved seeing how the work was hung on the walls and here’s a novel idea; the walls from section to section were painted in different colors. I was so used to seeing white walls in a gallery that it was truly a revelation to see paintings hung on walls that were painted a chocolate brown, dove grey or burgundy red.
